Tapasviji - A timeless Mystic

“…He was one of the great masters who are India’s truest wealth. Emerging in every generation, they have bulwarked their land against the fate of ancient Egypt and Babylonia” : Sri Paramahansa Yogananda, Autobiography of a Yogi.

With these words Sri Yogananda the great Master, revealed the secret of the longevity of India’s ancient culture and spiritual wealth from immemorial times to the present. A Master once said that the greatest quality of Indians is that they have the privilege to be born in India / Bharata. This sacred land may be considered the landing grounds of almost all, if not all Avataric missions. Saints and seers have ever been found here in abundance in every age, clime and time. Its pure atmosphere lends to the inner efforts of all Godly aspirants and their presence in turn adds to the vibrations and richness of its sanctity.

This is the story of one such Mahatma (Great soul) whose life was / is a living miracle itself. I first heard about Him when he made his presence felt to a participant in a Quantam gazing session. He appeared before her, smiled and said “We finally meet!” A few days later an Uncle in my neighborhood offered me a book saying it would interest me. It was the biography of the same sage. His name – Tapasviji.

It is rare that a saint such as him would make his presence known to lesser mortals of the society, entrenched in worldliness. Masters such as him are often hidden away from the misunderstanding eyes of the world. Their lives defy every rule of nature and society that most ‘cultured and modern’ people pride in and are bound by. His presence amongst us is a further sign of his grace and saintliness.

Tapasviji was born in the Royal family of Patiala, Punjab, as Prince Krishna Singh in the year 1770.

This was when the Mughals ruled India. He entered mahasamadhi in the year 1955, when the British had left independent India. Thus he lived a total of 185 years. His extra lease of life may astound most. But it was his knowledge of kayakalpa, which enabled him to rejuvenate his body on 3 different occasions giving him an extended life.

How he became a renunciant is an interesting story. Fed up of the political restlessness in his fathers kingdom, which kept the state in perpetual warlike situation, the young prince rode to Delhi to meet the Emperor in an effort to bring final peace to his state. Krishna Singh’s description of Delhi and Mughal architecture and science is most fascinating. He reveled how the Mughal engineers built garden which air conditioned the atmosphere giving cool during summers and warmth during severe winters.

When the young Prince met Emperor Bahadur Shah, he found him counting his beads and taking the name of the Lord. Hearing the young Prince’s plight the Emperor looked at him and said “Prince Krishna Singh, I am happy to have met you. You want my help to establish peace in your state. Your desire in commendable. I wish to tell you that my power of interference is negligible. My writ does not run far. You have no peace of mind. I too have no peace of mind. I now feel that devotion to God brings more happiness to man than possession of an empire. I say that a saint’s life is preferable to that of a King. I now bid you farewell. Peace be with you.”

These words had a profound effect of the young Prince. He rode back, not to his kingdom but towards Haridwar. The spirit of renunciation burning within him. He gave up all his costly jewels, clothing and his sword and tying it in a bundle he wrote a note and put it around his dear horse asking anyone who found these jewels to take the responsibility of caring for his horse. With this Krishna Singh gave up the world in pursuit of the Kingdom of God.

His journey from that point unto his passing is awe inspiring and magical. Traveling from one holy city to another, from the plains of middle India to the inaccessible Himalayan regions, from western points of India to Burma in the east, Krishna Singh, now known by his renunciant name of Vishnudas encountered several incredible beings and animals – from Cobras who would come and try to disturb and communicate with him, some of who would spit fire; to tigers who would shapeshift into saints assuming such a form to keep people of the world from disturbing them.

Notwithstanding these encounters and difficulties, Vishnudas undertook the most severe penance and austerities with one pointed focus, sprinting on the path of his spiritual awareness to great heights. Many divine figures and saints would appear before him in response to his efforts. He earned the name Tapasviji due to the severity of the austerities he undertook. Once he took a vow to do khade-tapasya (standing austerity) whereby he would keep standing till he reached Brindavan from his current location near Patna. Furthermore he also kept his left raised up above his head. It took him 27 years to visit Brindavan as he travelled randomly as life guided him. Throughout these 27 years he kept standing, even doing his meditation and resting in a standing pose.

One may wonder why such austerities are undertaken. Are they pleasing to God? Perhaps not! But the purpose of such efforts are to completely subdue the mind and senses and to grow over the awareness of oneself as the body or senses.

Once, in the Himalayan region he encountered another saintly figure who suggested that they journey together to the deeps of the hidden Himalayas from where they could use their joined strength of siddhis to make their way through the Himalayan portals towards Indraloka. It took them weeks to make their way through the most difficult terrain. Midway in their journey and extraordinary occurrence took place. A beautiful, celestial looking chariot drawn by four milk-white horses stopped near them. A Gandharva alighted from the chariot and made a supplication “O Mahatmas, my Pranams. Lord Indra has send me to take you both in my chariot into his presence. You can reach Indraloka by yourself but only with great difficulties. Sit in my chariot and I can swiftly take you to your destination.”  The saints accepted the offer and ascended the chariot. In a short while, an unexpected thing happened. Both saints felt giddy and became unconscious. When they came to, they found themselves back near the Badri shrine. The other saint realized the trick played on them by the celestial Gandharva being, who perhaps felt jealous or threatened by a mortal in human form entering their celestial kingdom and brought them back using his superior powers.

Tapasviji during his own travels encountered great saints. He met a 5000 year old saint who was born in Ayodhya during the time of Krishna. This saint learned from his Guru that Sri Krishna was God, and set forth to meet Him but unfortunately couldn’t as Sri Krishna had shifted to Dwaraka from Mathura. He explained the reason of his long life is that his diet included only milk and certain rare herbs and creepers called Soma-lata. Tapasviji met Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa and Goddess Kamakshi devi, who encourages him to give up his last possession that he had forgotten about – a diamond ring, which he had kept folded in his loin cloth as final security, when he first became a renunciant.

As he progressed on his path, his awareness grew deeper and He often had darshans Sri Krishna who would come to him in different forms and aid him and also to ask him to give up undertaking severe penance. He had the darshan of Lord Narayana and Lord Shiva. Guru Nanak also blessed him, as did Radha devi during his visit to the sacred Barsana. The Moon-Lord Chandra visited him and sage Narada took him along to the celestial worlds in the astral form.

In Alakapuri in the Himalayas, Tapasviji encountered Ashwathama, the disgraced hero from the Mahabharata war. Usually secluded, Ashwathama entertained the saint and also shared with him rare stories from the Mahabharata which according to him Sri Vyasa did not mention or had changed for reasons known best to him. With the help of Ashwathama, Tapasviji met Sri Parashurama, Sri Durvasa and Maharishi Parashara. Tapasviji also had the rare blessing of having darshans of Goddess Gangadevi.

Having lived such a long life, Tapasviji encountered his Mother who had reincarnated into a new form and also his reincarnated son, who despite having his new parents instantly recognized Tapasviji as his own and clung to him begging him to keep him with him. Tapasviji accepted him as his disciple and named him Krishnadas. Krishnadas served him faithfully but when he was in his 30’s, he suddenly passed away.  With the passing of his dear disciple, Tapasviji was overwhelmed with sorrow. Sri Krishna appears before the saint and consoled him.

Other disciples found it odd that a saint of Tapasviji’s stature should be overcome by sorrow upon the passing of a disciple. Tapasviji explained,

“However great a saint maybe and even though people recognize him as sthitaprajna (One established in stillness/ calmness), his Jnanam (wisdom) is enveloped by the maya-shakti (illusion) of Eashwara (God). As such often a wise persons mind is clouded by some amount of delusion and he is moved by the notions of ‘I’ness. Though such state is temporary for a saint, during such times he too feels grief and attachment. Theoretically no embodied beings who take human birth in obedience to the laws of karma, can be fully free. Even an Avataar like Sri Rama suffered in grief for Sita and Lakshmana. Sri Krishna, a sarvajna (all-knowing) and master of Yoga, shed tears at the death of his father Vasudeva.

Thus feeling of grief in a human breast under certain circumstances is the svabhava (nature) of the mind. However in case of wise men, this state will not last long unlike ordinary humans, for who such states can destroy their peace of mind for ages and even be carried forward to other incarnations. A mahapurusha who has never been affected by grief has never been born till now from the time of creation.”

Eventually near the end of his life, Sri Tapasviji moved to south India upon the advice of Sri Krishna to help and bless devotees in the south.  Like all great saints, he took upon himself the karma of his disciples and devotees and on 12^th October 1955, he suddenly got up from his bed where he had been lying sick unable to move and made his feeble body sit smartly in a padmasana pose to the astonishment of his attending disciples. Thereupon he deeply uttered Aum thrice and thus left his mortal coil.

WHO WILL YOU HUG?

The story of Adi Shankaracharya's debate with Madan Mishra is well known. Having defeated the learned Mishra, his wife stepped into the debate and knowing Adi to be a celibate posed a question on Love and intimacy ( which was one of the branches of knowledge). Adi Shankara being pure from birth was at a loss. He took grace time of 30 days to get understanding on this subject.

A King by the name Amarukan, had just passed away. Before the Kings body could be cremated, Adi adapted his body and knowing that karma is connected only with the body and not with the spirit which is only a witness, he gathered all knowledge on the subject of love and intimacy in only 3 days by playing the role of a householder with the queens. He dedicated the rest of this time to serving the kingdom.

The first person to observe that there was something different about the King was his favourite Queen. 

One day she approached him and said “ There is something different about you my Lord!” 

Adi Shankaracharya replied “ How do you mean O Queen?”

The Queen said “ Previously you would always enjoy my company and the intimacy we shared. We would look forward to being in each others presence and being personal as a couple. But now you somehow seem distant and aloof. I wish to be intimate with you, hug you and show my love, but you act as if you are a stranger.”

Adi smiled at the queen in understanding and replied “ O Queen, tell me - When you say you would like to embrace me, who do you mean by me? Who do you think I am? This body that you see or the Soul within?”

The Queen was surprised by this line of thought.

The King replied “ If you think I am this body that you would like to love and hug, I assure you that if I were to leave this body and die, this body would scare you and you would have it removed from your presence to be cremated just as you did a few days back.”

The Queen looked on pondering over his words.

“ But if you think I am a soul then I am beyond your body and form to love or hug. To love me you too would have to rise above your body and be awaken in your soul consciousness. Only then can you and I truly meet, truly love and embrace.”

Adi Shankaracharya stayed in the Kings body for 21 days. It is said that in those 21 days he brought great reforms in the kingdom. He used most of His resources in empowering and educating the people of his kingdom. 

As for the Queen, following their discussion and his subsequent demise, She became a saint.

Crystal Children

Dear G,

If I were to describe these children to you in brief, I’d say that they are very special children – whose nature is love, purity and clarity. They will be a joy to their parents and all those who come in the range of their lives.  Crystals will mostly be vegetarians even vegans (as adults if not as children) and they have a very clear agenda with their lives which may not fall in line with the way conventional people look at their lives and careers.

But to understand the place and purpose of such children in the current world, one would need a broader understanding.  You may read the matter below if it interests you, though you may find much of the material to be strange. I will try to make this short.

We humans are aware of changes that take place daily in nature and the seasonal changes that take place yearly. There is another very important change that takes place in a larger space of time called the change of ages or Yugas. These changes may not be recorded or accepted by modern science because science as we know it is itself in a kindergarten stage. It has no means nor does human intellect have the capacity to measure or collect proof of such change. Yet ancient histories of both east and west have treasures of knowledge on it. Be it the Ramayana or Mahabharata periods of the east or the Sumeria, Mayan or Atlantis civilisations of the west. Structures such as the pyramids, the stonehenge are living testimonies to those past eras. Proofs that can come within the narrow scope of science may not exist, yet proofs there are.

Just as dawn announces its arrival in the night by the splash of red rays across the dark sky. Just as warm winds during late winters announce the arrival of spring. So also the new age announces its arrival by sending its energies during the transition from the old age. Winter does not change to summer in a single day. Similarly ages do not change over a single year but over 2 or 4 or 6 centuries.

In the current case the astronomical year of change of age is the much famed year 2012. The transition started a good 200 years back during the 18^th century.  Modern science acknowledges that 95% of the science that we know today came in the last 5% of the time we have existed on earth i.e – 250 odd years, approximately the 18^th century. And therein lies the proof of the coming new age.

Whereas prior to the 18^th century we lived almost in the dark ages; since 18^th century on we have progressed at neck break speed going from steam engines to electricity to radio waves to atom to space. The cause for this is the influence of the new energies of the new age dawning on us.

Yet the mixture of the old and the new has lead to downfalls. Old age man instead of using his knowledge of atoms to create and sustain life, used it to make nuclear bombs, similarly other secrets of nature were discovered by man at a huge cost of hurting nature and even mankind, leading to the current stage where we have literally poisoned air, water and earth. During the past change of ages, mankind was afflicted with similar problems that led to the downfall of great civilisations such as Atlantis and Lemuria.  It is  in view of this fact that many people who understand 2012 saw it as a doomsday period. What is required to complete the transition, is a shift in consciousness of mankind.

It is to enable this shift that a new class of children were to be introduced into the human race. These children are generally known as Star seeds. They are all highly sensitive and matured souls, many of them have special abilities such as ESP, clairvoyance etc.; who have graduated from their life on planets like earth yet return voluntarily to assist during such changes.  This is akin to a college student helping out children of 2^nd r 3^rdgrade.

These children are of 3 classes. The Indigo’s, the Crystals and the Rainbow children.

The Indigos – started populating earth from the 50’s onwards or after the 2^nd world war. But they really were acknowledged during the 70’s.

The nature of Indigo’s is Transformation. Their role is similar to throwing a huge rock into a flowing river to disrupt its flow. For this the indigos use peace, rebellion, passivity, non cooperation, sometimes even violence to achieve their ends. The hippy generation of the 60’s and 70’s were all Indigo effect.

Indigos do not like authority. They are non-conformists. Most indigos opt to work in fields of arts, music or healing. They are wise, with great spiritual understanding  of the purpose of life and often do not look their age. Their mission is to disrupt and transform the system by questioning everything.

Crystals – These children started populating the earth from 2000 onwards. Their nature is Pure love. After the Indigos have caused transformations, the Crystals will take over and lead the way with Love and clarity. The Crystals also have prominent signs. They are pure beings having a faultless gaze and they seem to look through into the soul of a person. They are fearless and know exactly what they want to do in life. Unlike the Indigos, the crystals are a source of joy to everyone from their parents to the society.

Rainbows – Are almost divine beings with abilities that one will consider miraculous. These are very few in number and will appear in larger numbers only much later to mature the new age.

I am aware of 3 rainbow children – one in Delhi, one in Holland and the 3^rd in Australia. I also have the privilege of knowing atleast 3 Crystals of which one is a 12 year old boy living in Bangalore, who I met just yesterday. The other is a girl who is 10, a westerner living in South India. The 3^rdis a girl who was my neighbor and who instantly connected with me even as a 4 month child; we have been best friends.

When I first saw S I was struck by her sense of presence. She seemed to have very pure vibes. Her gaze was what convinced me of her being a Crystal. Also the mention that this child never cries and I witnessed the same during our stay, added to my conviction. I am very friendly with children and would always think of playing with S, but somehow when near her I was awed by her presence, as she seemed more like a wise soul to me then a little child. :)

From my understanding Crystals age at their own pace.  They may or may not react and respond like other kids do. Some Crystals have been known to start speaking late. The understanding given to that by the adepts is that these children are not use to oral communication and therefore don’t feel the need to adapting to it till much later. But they have great empathy and are highly intelligent. It is very difficult to scare such children, for instance with stories of ghosts. They are fearless and have a very defined purpose in life.

The best way to help a Crystal grow is to keep them always in natural, organic environments, give them natural foods. They will always love to be in nature as against crowded places where the energy is dense.

I do not know if this is sufficient info or if there’s anything more you should or would like to know. I am sorry if some of the ideas introduced here may seem odd, but I guessed if you are blessed enough with a child such as S, this info will resonate with you too. If you check up Crystal children online just keep a sense of discretion, as there are many people out there who have put up a lot of info aiming at sensationalism.
